How is a WhatsApp message cost estimate calculated?

A WhatsApp cost estimate is one multiplication: per-message rate × billable template messages. You take Meta's published rate for your recipient market and category, and multiply by the monthly volume you send. Nothing is added on top — that's Meta's fee, not a bitbybit charge. Three things make your real bill usually land at or below the estimate:

  • Service-window messages are free. When a customer messages you first, you get a 24-hour window to reply free. Since July 1, 2025, utility templates sent inside that open window are free too.
  • The 72-hour free entry-point window. When a customer reaches you through a click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page call-to-action button and you reply within 24 hours, Meta opens a 72-hour window in which template messages are free. See the WhatsApp integration page.
  • Volume-tier discounts. Meta offers lower utility and authentication rates as monthly volume grows (marketing is excluded). Enter the standard rate and treat the result as an upper bound.
What does Meta charge per message, by category?

Meta charges per delivered template message; the price changes by recipient country and category. Marketing is the most expensive; utility and authentication are far cheaper; service is free. Because Meta revises per-market rates regularly, this tool doesn't hard-code prices — you supply the current rate from Meta so the estimate reflects today's number.

For the exact figure in your market and currency, use the always-current table on Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform pricing page (developer reference: Meta's pricing docs). Meta bills in your account's local currency. Some markets also carry a separate authentication-international rate for cross-border one-time-passcode messages.

Does bitbybit add a markup to WhatsApp fees?

No. bitbybit passes Meta's published per-message rates straight through, with no markup. You pay Meta's rate for the messages you send, plus a flat platform fee for bitbybit — the AI Studio agent engine, the bitChat conversation surface, and the bitCRM customer record — that doesn't change with your message volume. Plans start at $99 Standard and $299 Pro Bundle; see the pricing page. bitbybit is an Official Meta Tech Partner running directly on the WhatsApp Cloud API, so the Meta rates you estimate here are the rates that apply — with no reseller markup.

Frequently asked questions

Is WhatsApp Business pricing per conversation or per message?

Per message. On July 1, 2025, Meta retired the older 24-hour conversation-based model and now bills per delivered template message. Each message’s price is set by the recipient’s country and the template’s category — marketing, utility, or authentication. Free-form replies you send inside an open 24-hour service window remain free, and utility templates sent inside that open window are also free as of the same date.

Which WhatsApp messages are free?

Three kinds. First, any free-form message you send while the 24-hour service window is open — the window a customer opens by messaging you — is free. Second, since July 1, 2025, utility template messages sent inside that open service window are free too. Third, when a customer reaches you through a click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page call-to-action button and you reply within 24 hours, Meta opens a 72-hour free entry-point window in which all template messages are free. Templates sent outside these windows are billed at Meta’s per-message rate for the recipient’s market.

Why is my real WhatsApp bill different from this estimate?

A few reasons, almost all in your favor. The estimate uses the rate you enter, but Meta applies volume-tier discounts to utility and authentication at higher monthly volumes, so your effective rate on those categories can be lower. It also excludes free service-window and free-entry-point messages, which can be a large share of real traffic. Going the other way, your category mix may differ from what you entered, and Meta changes rates by market periodically. Treat this as a planning estimate, not an invoice, and confirm live rates on Meta’s official WhatsApp pricing page.
